On behalf of York Cycle Campaign Cycle Heaven in York are very excited to host, live from the city of Ghent Belgium, its deputy mayor, who was responsible for a radical traffic plan in 2017 that turned the system on its head.
By 2016 Ghent, like a lot of modern cities, had a serious problem with private car use. The radical steps that the city took next in the teeth of virulent opposition transformed the lives of its citizens for the better.
With much change talk in the wake of the COP26, it’s hard to envisage easy ways we can bring about the kind of rapid change on the ground that can make a difference to the looming climate crisis. Find out how enlightened civic leadership in a medium sized city, like York, achieved a big win for active and environmental transport that confounded its critics – doomster and nay-sayer alike.
7-9pm, Wednesday 24th November, Cycle Heaven,
