Initially founded as the Raising Cycling in Ryedale Group in 2013, the Ryedale Cycle Forum has established itself as a group of like minded members with an interest in cycling. The group promotes cycling events, routes and safer cycling. View the Ryedale Cycle Forum Terms of Reference.
The forum is supported by North Yorkshire Council and currently chaired by Michael Cleary. It is attended by local cyclists, cycle shops, environmental groups, Parish Councils, the North York Moors National Park, Sustrans, NYC Highways and the Forestry Commission.
We are interested in increasing the number of routes between communities, suitable for young and old, for walkers, cycles, prams, dogs, horse riders and nature lovers. This could include road-side paths, off-road tracks and quiet country lanes. There are benefits to health, to the environment, and to the local economy.
We hope to develop cycle routes through Ryedale, as part of the Sustrans National Cycle Network and to link together our villages and market towns of Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside, Malton, Norton-on-Derwent and Pickering.
Do you have an idea for a car-free or very quiet route, short or long, that could be developed? Or would you like to be involved in finding or developing routes?
