Highways England has installed a short, two way cycle path alongsde the A64 at Musley Bank, west of Malton. It directly joins the road from Huttons Ambo with York Road, near the Malton Enterprise Park.
Cyclists from Malton can safely reach Huttons Ambo and wheel over the River Derwent suspension bridge to reach local roads to the south and perhaps on to York.
For anyone who doesn’t know this route, I can thoroughly recommend it to avoid the traffic chaos of Malton and Norton (even though you can get past it easily on a bike). The aforementioned bridge route deposits you on the idyllic road alongside the R Derwent that runs between between Menethorpe and the Westow area, thus connecting to a lovely network of quiet lanes around the end of the wolds.
I had a lovely ride on the new cycle path to Huttons Ambo early Sunday morning. Found the bridge eventually ( it is down a narrow lane with a dead end sign). Did a circular route back through Menethorpe and back to Malton.
Are there any plans to extend the cycle path to or close to westow ?
